The full recipe makes two 9″ round, 2″ tall cake layers and the full frosting recipe yields 5 C, which is enough for a crumb coat and a generous, proper coverage of the cake.
Halving the recipes gives me just the right amount of batter and frosting for two 6″-round, 2 1/2″ tall layers.
